I had the absolute pleasure of joining Sarah and Dan for several wonderful moments throughout their wedding day. From a surprise saxophone appearance during the confetti celebrations to a relaxed outdoor drinks reception and an energetic wedding breakfast entrance, it was a day full of music, personality and some fantastic memories.
One thing I always enjoy about being a wedding saxophonist is getting to know couples before their big day. Every wedding is different, and I think the music should reflect that.
In the lead-up to Sarah and Dan’s wedding, we arranged a few Zoom calls and exchanged WhatsApp messages to discuss their plans. We talked about the different parts of their day, the atmosphere they wanted to create and where live saxophone would work best.
Rather than simply choosing a selection of songs, we looked at how the music could complement the celebrations as they unfolded.
For Sarah and Dan, that meant creating three distinct musical moments: a surprise during the confetti, a relaxed outdoor drinks reception and a big entrance into their wedding breakfast.
I also wanted to make sure everything ran smoothly behind the scenes. I arrived at Oxnead Hall and set up my equipment before the ceremony began. This meant everything was ready without disturbing the ceremony or getting in the way of guests and suppliers.
With everything prepared, I could concentrate on the fun part: bringing their plans to life!
One of my favourite moments of the day came immediately after Sarah and Dan’s ceremony.
They had planned for me to make a surprise appearance during their confetti celebrations, giving their guests an unexpected burst of live saxophone as the newlyweds emerged. Confetti is already such a joyful moment. Everyone’s cheering, the couple are smiling and there’s a wonderful sense of excitement after the ceremony.
Adding live saxophone brings another element to that atmosphere, turning a traditional wedding moment into something even more personal.
It’s also a brilliant example of how wedding entertainment doesn’t need to be reserved for the evening reception. Sometimes, introducing music at an unexpected point in the day creates a moment that guests will remember. And judging by Sarah and Dan’s reaction, the surprise was a success!
After the confetti celebrations, it was time for the drinks reception. With the July sunshine making an appearance, guests gathered outside at Oxnead Hall to enjoy drinks, canapés and the lovely surroundings.
The ceremony has finished, everyone can begin to relax and guests finally have the chance to catch up with friends and family. It’s a wonderful opportunity to create an atmosphere without making the music the centre of attention.
For Sarah and Dan, I performed a mixture of familiar favourites and upbeat club classics, creating a feel-good soundtrack for their afternoon. The playlist included songs such as Show Me Love by Robin S, Freed From Desire by Gala and Ordinary by Alex Warren.
We’d also planned some more personal choices. Careless Whisper by George Michael was included especially for Dan, while This Girl by Kungs was a particular favourite for Sarah.
I always enjoy incorporating songs that mean something to the couple. It helps make the performance feel like part of their wedding rather than simply entertainment happening in the background. The atmosphere was exactly what we’d hoped for: sunshine, good company, drinks flowing and some brilliant music to accompany it all.
If there’s one part of a wedding day where I think couples can have a little more fun, it’s their wedding breakfast entrance.
By this point, guests have enjoyed the ceremony and drinks reception. Everyone’s ready for the next part of the celebrations, so why not make an entrance?
For Sarah and Dan, we’d chosen Jubel by Klingande as their wedding breakfast entrance song.
As Sarah and Dan made their entrance, the live sax helped bring the energy up and give them a proper welcome into their wedding breakfast.
I love being able to create these different atmospheres throughout a wedding. We can go from something relaxed during the drinks reception to a much bigger, more energetic moment just a little later.
And that’s exactly what made Sarah and Dan’s day so enjoyable to be part of.
Weddings are always a team effort, and I had the pleasure of working alongside some brilliant suppliers for Sarah and Dan’s celebrations.
