Sam's proposal to Jess

"...it went above and beyond everything I expected."

This one will always mean something extra to me, because it was the very first proposal I’ve ever played for.

I’ve performed at hundreds of weddings, parties and celebrations, but being asked to soundtrack the exact moment someone asks one of the biggest questions of their life? That felt different. And Sam’s proposal to Jess at Whitby Bandstand was the perfect first.

Sam had a clear vision from the start. Around 9pm, as the evening settled in, they would walk towards the bandstand after dinner not knowing what was waiting. His brother helped coordinate everything on the day, setting up the space and liaising with me behind the scenes so we could time the music perfectly. As they approached, I was ready.

The bandstand was beautifully dressed with candles and roses, glowing softly against the sea air. And underneath it all stood their daughter, holding the ring. A detail that made the whole moment even more powerful.

The Soundtrack

Sam chose:

  • Miguel – Adorn
  • Fred again.. – adore u

Both tracks brought that smooth, modern romantic feel. I kept the sax soft and atmospheric as Jess walked closer, letting the music build naturally without overwhelming the moment. When Sam got down on one knee and Jess said yes, it felt genuinely emotional. There’s something special about playing live in a moment that can’t be repeated. After the yes, they popped some fizz and celebrated under the lights while I continued serenading, turning the proposal into a private little celebration by the sea.

To be trusted with my first proposal and to play a small part in such a huge life moment was something I won’t forget. Whitby Bandstand, candlelight, family, sea breeze and a perfectly timed soundtrack.

If you’re planning a proposal and want live sax to create that subtle, romantic and completely personal atmosphere, I’d love to help you plan it.

I’m so grateful for you being there, it went above and beyond everything I expected. Thank you so much, you’ll always be part of a special moment for us and we’ll hope to see you in future whenever the wedding is.
