A clifftop drinks reception, live sax leading guests through to the Italian Garden and a first dance full of classic romance, Lauren & Will’s wedding at Pennsylvania Castle, Dorset was one of those days where the music helped shape the atmosphere from start to finish.
Set on the dramatic Dorset coastline, Pennsylvania Castle created the perfect backdrop for a wedding that felt elegant, relaxed and full of energy. I performed two sets across the day: the first from 2:30pm – 4:00pm immediately after the ceremony on the Clifftops rooftop, and the second from 6:45pm – 8:15pm, moving from the Orangery through to the Italian Gardens and then back inside for the first dance.
It was a brilliant example of how live sax can support the whole flow of a wedding day, from relaxed afternoon drinks to high-energy moments that get everyone moving.
The first set began straight after the ceremony on the Clifftops rooftop, with guests enjoying drinks, views and that post-ceremony excitement.
This part of the day was all about creating a relaxed but feel-good atmosphere. With the sea air, the setting and guests settling into the celebration, live sax worked perfectly as the soundtrack to that first part of the afternoon.
The music included a mix of soulful, uplifting and recognisable tracks, with songs like Lovely Day, Put Your Records On, Just The Two Of Us and My Girl helping to create a warm, summery atmosphere.
It was the perfect way to start the celebrations after the ceremony, relaxed enough for guests to chat and enjoy the moment, but with enough energy to make the day feel alive from the very beginning.
Lauren & Will’s song choices had such a lovely balance of romance, personality and party energy.
You’ve Got The Love was used for the confetti moment, giving that part of the day a really uplifting feel. Later on, A Sky Full of Stars soundtracked the cake cut, bringing a bigger, celebratory energy into the room.
These are the kinds of musical choices that make a wedding feel personal. They are not just songs for the sake of filling space, they help define moments and make them feel memorable.
One of the standout moments of the day came during the second set.
Lauren & Will wanted Jubel by Klingande to lead guests through to the Italian Garden for cocktail hour before the first dance. The plan was for Chloe from the Penn Castle events team to follow with the speaker as I led everyone from the wedding breakfast towards the Italian Garden.
It was such a fun, high-energy way to move guests from one part of the day into the next. Rather than the transition feeling like a pause, it became a moment in itself.
That is exactly where live sax works so well, turning the movement between spaces into part of the celebration.
The second set moved from the Orangery through to the Italian Gardens and helped build the energy before the evening party began.
This was where the soundtrack shifted into more upbeat territory, with tracks like Freed From Desire, The Rhythm of the Night, Unwritten and Baker Street bringing a mix of Ibiza-style energy, classic sax moments and feel-good party atmosphere.
It created a natural build towards the first dance, making sure the energy did not dip after the wedding breakfast. Guests were already in the mood to celebrate before the evening properly began.
Lauren & Will’s first dance took place back inside in the Dining Room, and their song choice was a classic:
Can’t Take My Eyes Off You
It is one of those songs that works so beautifully for a first dance because it has the best of both worlds. It can start romantic and intimate, but as soon as the chorus arrives, the energy lifts and everyone wants to join in.
After the clifftop drinks reception, the Italian Garden cocktail hour and the build-up throughout the evening, this felt like the perfect way to bring everyone together and move into the next part of the celebration.
